The Snow Queen

Killearn Performing Arts third production of The Snow Queen performed to an audience of over 400 on December 20 at Chiles High School Auditorium.

This production was a retelling of the famous fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson set to Irish dance and music. The suite of 17 dances featured 40 students who study Irish dance at Killearn Performing Arts and the Tallahassee Irish Step Dancers.

We hope to make this an annual holiday event. Every dance studio does the Nutcracker for the holidays, but The Snow Queen also has timeless elements of good triumphing over evil, terrific characters, and powerful Irish music, both traditional and contemporary as its score. This production featured the addition of 2 new dances and increased the spectacle of the already beautiful costumes, and featured intelligent lighting effects.

The basic adapted story concerns a girl, Colleen (Kate Bollone), who must journey to the palace of the Snow Queen (Sarah Brown) to rescue Patrick (Jared Kent), who came under her influence when a shard of a powerful mirror which was created by an evil demon was broken and fell into his eye. Colleen's journey includes a visit to the Spring Queen (Alissa Haberfeld) and her garden of flowers; directions from two comic crows; a visit to the court of the Summer Queen (Kristy Lehmann) and King (Matt Thompson) and their court ; captured by the Robber Girl (Brittany Fauble) and the Fall Queen (Maureen O'Neil) and their band of Robbers; befriended by a Reindeer (KC Brown) who takes her to rescue Patrick and the Frozen Boys at the palace of the Snow Queen. Colleen's purity conquers the evil Snow Queen and thaws the hearts of Patrick and the boys who return to their happy village.
